You would have to ...( 1 month ago by heatherwind)
You would have to be dead not to move to this. I've loved old-school funk since I was little. Growing up in a farming community in the 70s we couldn't find classics like this at the local record store, so I'm so happy to find vids like this online to feed my addiction. It's like I'm discovering it all over again. Thank you for posting this!
Q: Why is 70's funk ...( 1 month ago by Funktaco)
Q: Why is 70's funk better than today's funk?
A: It was more free form; they just went where the funk took them. Today's funk is fit into a designer suit, and funk is about getting people out of their clothes. There is also the issue of loops and samples today. The funk can't be held down by a computer,
"Some of the beats and loops are cool...but can you imagine some R2-D2 in your funk..."

Todays recording industry want music that you can produce over night using minimal talent. Turn on the samples, fire up the drum machines, bring in some sky high ghetto thug and let him talk about the worst of life styles in the black community. Not to mention boost about his material possesions and his control over brainless young ghetto women. The ulitmate young punk fantasy. That's why funk as it used to be doesn't exist.
It still exists, ...( 3 weeks ago by Funktaco)
It still exists, just not in the mainstream. People might listen to a good funk album for a while, and not throw it aside to buy the latest bling. Margins are thinner on GOOD music. Crap sells more.

Unfortunatly I agree 100%. It's too bad record companies release stuff based on potential profits, not on the quality of the music.
Sadly, the industry works off of this philosophy: People don't know what they like, they like what they know.
